Over the past week, I was graced with the privilege of having 9 of my closest friends come and stay with me at my residence here in Maryland. I was quite nervous before the ordeal, as a majority of them I had never met in person. You hear a lot about how people can be different from online when you meet them, I’ve even experienced it first hand myself. So naturally when two-thirds of the people I was about to have stay with me had never met me in person I was filled with trepidation. I’d like to take a moment to talk about each of them, and give them my thanks.
Tyler was ecstatic to see me when we picked him up from the airport. Was it because he was happy to see me or happy to see me dressed in a dad outfit? Here’s the secret: it was both. He’s always been a happy fun loving guy, but getting to spend time with him has brought him closer to me. Tyler is the kind of guy who is always there for you. He is always willing to listen to what you have to say and always willing to help to the best of his ability. We had fun through the whole trip. We danced and laughed and bonded. Tyler is my now my brother, I love him unconditionally. My favorite moment with him was when I picked him up and gave him a back-breaker knee-drop.
Diepod arrived with Tyler, and he’s kind of the antithesis of him. He’s always been sorta pessimistic, but getting to spend time with him he showed his true colors. He’s a great friend, he was there for me when I needed him and legitimately cared when I was troubled. I had fun goofin off with him and drawing in each others sketchbooks. I think my favorite moment with him was when we were all changing the lyrics to the transformers song and making him roll with laughter. Diepod is the realest dude I know and I’m glad he came outta his shell and stayed with me.
Jacob I have met before, and I’ve known him for quite some time. He’s a sweet guy, not one to argue, usually keeping to himself. He doesn’t speak much and when he does he makes it count. He was always ready for a good time and I’m glad I was able to make his Birthday special. Jacob if you read this keep on bein you an bein one of the best bros I’ve ever had. My favorite moment with him was when I did impressions of him (his favorite thing).
Robby, well, there’s much I could say about Robby. Robby was there for me throughout the whole week. Whether it be for a laugh, a smile, or a shoulder to cry on. Robby helped me immensely throughout this past week and I don’t think I can put to words the magnitude of how much it meant to have him there with me. I appreciated when he stayed with me one night when I was in a sorry state and he kept me company. Robby I love you and thank you from the bottom of my entire essence. My favorite moment with Robby was when we saw the DBZ movie in theaters and got hype together.
Meeks, although I didn’t get to spend much time with them because of their volunteer work at the convention, what little time I did get with them was precious to me. They offered to help me when I was troubled and were always willing to lend an ear. That’s what a true friend does. I’m glad they were able to make it. My favorite moment with Meeks was their initial reaction to my gross dad outfit on the first day.
Sasha seemed nervous to me to be on this trip, but I feel that the time she spent with us really helped her to overcome her fears. Sasha is very well mannered and supportive of her friends and is filled to the brim with ambition and talent. I’m glad I got to meet her. My favorite moment with her was dancing around with our shirts above our heads.
Sean is a beautiful soul. He’s a quiet and shy boy with a heart of gold. Though he was a bit sick for a majority of the trip he made his moments count. He had a way of making me smile with the simplest of actions. His deadpan sense of humor always guaranteed me a laugh. Sean wrote a very beautiful letter that he shared on his blog over here. I suggest you go read it. My favorite moment with him was when he dressed as a grandpa.
Chris is one of my closest friends. He almost didn’t make it on this trip, but he managed to pull through. I cherish the moments I get to spend with him because he means a great deal to me. I’m glad he was there so we could talk about life and emotions together. We bought luchadore masks together to cement our bond. My favorite moment with him was when we wrestled, and I was victorious in the first round.
And finally, I’d like to say a few words about someone who went above and beyond on this trip. As I stated before, I was quite nervous and scared about meeting a majority of my friends in person for the first time. I can easily say however that as soon as jaxxy showed up on the first night, my fears were gone near instantaneously. I have never met another person in my entire life who can put me at ease like she can. She has an air of grace and care that surrounds her in everything she does. In a way, it makes you feel like you’re right at home no matter where you may be. Did I also mention she is an excellent house guest? Always ready willing and able to give a helping hand or contribute to anything that needed assistance. We tended to be on the same page with a lot of things, were interested in doing the same kinds of activities and shared similar opinions. It was wonderful having her around. I think the highlight of my time spent in her company was when one night we cooked quesadillas together and danced to the Doobie Brothers in my kitchen. I’m thankful that I can call her my friend, and I count myself very lucky because of this. I’ve been told that online I tend to piss her off, but after this trip I hope the only thing about me that pisses her off is how far away I live.
This trip was a milestone in my life. It means more to me than anything. In fact, this trip is bigger than me, its not about me having friends visit me. This trip was about becoming closer as friends; as a family. The experiences we collectively shared will stick with me beyond forever.
To all my friends: Thank you for enriching my life with your presence. This trip has helped me to evolve and advance as a person and I have you all to thank for that. I hope that this trip was as fun for you as it was for me. I love each and every one of you unconditionally and I will never stop loving you.
I hope to see you again in 5 months at MAGFest and this time I’ll make it even better than before.
